Non-abelian vortices on compact Riemann surfaces
We consider the vortex equations for a U(n) gauge field A coupled to a Higgs field φ with values on the n × n matrices. It is known that when these equations are defined on a compact Riemann surface Σ, their moduli space of solutions is closely related to a moduli space of τ -stable holomorphic n-pairs on that surface. Using this fact and a local factorization result for the matrix φ, we show t...
متن کاملQuasi-geostrophic vortices in compressible atmospheres
This paper considers the effect of an exponential variation in the background density field (as exists in compressible atmospheres) on the structure and dynamics of the quasi-geostrophic system, and compares the results with the corresponding Boussinesq limit in which background density variations are assumed small. The behaviour of the compressible system is understood via a closed-form analyt...
متن کاملA compact stacked Quasi-fractal microstrip antenna for RFID applications
In this paper, we propose a new compact quasi-fractal shaped microstrip antenna that consists of a hexagonal patch as the main radiator and a complementary stacked patch as the parasitic element. The overall surface of the proposed quasi-fractal patch is about 55% lower than the conventional hexagonal patch. Using of stacked technique, the gain reduction of compression technique is almost compe...
متن کاملQuasi-steady Monopole and Tripole Attractors in Relaxing Vortices
Quasi-steady monopole and tripole attractors for relaxing vortices. Using fully nonlinear simulations of the two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations at large Reynolds number ͑Re͒, we bracket a threshold amplitude above which a perturbed Gaussian monopole will relax to a quasi-steady, rotating tripole, and below which will relax to an axisymmetric monopole. The resulting quasi-steady structures ar...
متن کاملGluon Vortices and Induced Magnetic Field in Compact Stars
The natural candidates for the realization of color superconductivity are the extremely dense cores of compact stars, many of which have very large magnetic fields, especially the so-called magnetars. In this paper we discuss how a color superconducting core can serve to generate and enhance the stellar magnetic field without appealing to a magnetohydrodynamic dynamo mechanism.
